MDO is a medium density overlay panel and is a paintable surface made of plywood with a weather-resistant resin overlay bonded to the wood by heat and pressure. MDO was developed in the 1970s as an exterior-grade material that would resist degradation better than plywood.
MDO panels are made with a resin content of at least 27%. The resin overlay makes the panel more resistant to water, weather, wear and degradation. These panels are used in a variety of applications, including signage, marine uses and furniture. MDO is also commonly used as a substrate for painting and other decorative finishes.
MDO panels provide an excellent painting surface that is dimensionally stable and resistant to warping. MDO panels are available in a variety of thicknesses, densities and grades.
These panels can be cut, drilled, routed or otherwise machined using standard woodworking tools.
